Al Ain University of Science and Technology (AAU, in Arabic:جامعة العين للعلوم و التكنولوجيا) was established in 2005 and is located in the city of Al Ain, within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Overview

Al Ain University of Science and Technology (AAU) is licensed by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. AAU is a new and rapidly growing Institution of higher education, which uses English as a medium of instruction. It has two campuses in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, and the other is in Al Ain, the garden city of the UAE. Since the establishment of the University in 2005, the University’s student enrolment has tripled, including students from the UAE and more than other twenty nationalities. The University offers accredited programs through its colleges (Business Administration, Education, Engineering and I.T, Law and Pharmacy) with 11 baccalaureate degrees. It also offers a Masters’ degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Professional Diploma in Education. The University has already submitted additional programs that will be offered after accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

AAU is a licensed CAA institution by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with 11 accredited degrees.

Admission

AAU admission policy is based on students’ academic achievements in the secondary school certificate or its equivalent, regardless of gender, race, color, religion, age, handicap or national origin. The student may be accepted in AAU either as a full time student or part time student. All documents presented by the applicant for admission purposes become the property of AAU and are not returned. If, for any reason, documents presented by the applicant are deemed fraudulent, AAU reserves the right to expel the student without refund, or prior notice.

Admission of Freshman Students

Each applicant must complete an application form available at the Admission and Registration office. This form must be submitted at the dates announced by the University, and must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee. No late applications will be accepted. To be accepted in any program, the applicant must:

1.Have a secondary UAE school certificate or its equivalent approved by the Ministry of Education with an average that satisfies the College requirements. 2.Hold a valid English Language Proficiency score of at least (500) in TOEFL or (5 band) in IELTS. 3.English Language Proficiency Certificates is not required of the students who intend to join College of Law. 4.If students have no satisfactory English Language Proficiency score, they are required to sit for the AAU English Placement Test (AUEPT). Based on their results in the AUEPT, students are placed in one of the three intensive English Language Levels: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Students at Level 1 are allowed to register in one General Education Course; students at Level 2 are allowed to register in two General Education Courses. Students at Level 3 are allowed to register in 3 General Education Courses. 5.After Level 3, students are expected to sit for the TOEFL or IELTS exams and present an evidence of satisfactory score before they can register for the next semester. 6.Satisfy any additional requirements for admission into the program that he/she intends to enter. Admission of Transfer Students

The University Admission and Registration Office accept a student’s application to transfer from any other accredited university and college provided that the student fulfills the following conditions:

1.The student must provide the Admission and Registration Office with an official transcript showing all earned credits and grades along with a course catalog description. 2.Students must have successfully completed at least 9 credit hours from an accredited university or college with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) not less than 2.0 on scale of 4.0 and a secondary score average of 55% or above. 3.Transfer will be granted only from educational institutions that require the students to attend classes on a campus. 4.The maximum credit hours that can be transferred are 50% of the total credits of the program, for courses with AAU equivalents. 5.Transfer of all or some of the credit hours shall be granted upon the recommendation of the academic department based on course-to-course equivalence. The course content should be equivalent to at least 80% of AAU courses. A minimum grade of C is the condition for the transfer of credits of any course. 6.No credit is granted for pass/fail courses. 7.If a student has a cumulative GPA of 1.75 and less than 2.0 on a scale of 4.0, he/she is allowed to transfer courses into the general education courses only. 8.Grades of the transfer courses are not used in calculating student’s cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the AAU. 9.Higher Colleges of Technology students who wish to transfer to AAU are accepted without looking at their secondary school average provided they have a GPA acceptable by the University. 10.All transfer students are expected to show evidence of a valid English Language profeciency score of at least (500) in TOEFL or (5 band) in IELTS. Admission of Audit Students

An individual may enroll at AAU for non degree study on either a full-time or part-time basis. Although such individuals are classified as non-matriculating, they are provided an opportunity for academic study with concentration in a particular area of interest.

1.They are not entitled to earn a degree from the university without gaining admission to a degree-granting program. 2.For students who want to take a single course, approval is given by the head of department or the dean of the college offering the course. 3.Non-degree students who take more than one course per semester, or who take courses for more than one semester, must also receive approval from the related department/ college.
